Zig-zag system
The Zig-Zag system is the most widely used structure for protecting fruits from cracking. It can be made with either coated woven tarpaulin film or low-density polyethylene plastic film. The choice of film type should be based on temperature, light transmission and diffusion required by the crop. Each row is generally covered by two distinct films, one on each side, connected to the top rope with appropriate hooks or clips. The use of the GPL-COLMO Comavit hook allows for zero coverage gaps, ensuring better waterproofing. In the center of the row, the two films are tied together with an appropriate bungee rope, forming a zig-zag pattern, hence the name of the structure. Generally, the two films leave a clear space of 7/10% of the row spacing for water drainage and ventilation. In case a early ripening is requested, it is possible to install plastic fil with an additional reinforcement band. Indeed, early ripening is achieved by ensuring higher temperatures under the sheet. For this purpose, the zig-zag system can include films with an extension that is used only in the first stages of the season, ensuring a complete coverage of the rows and maintaining a higher temperature, simulating a greenhouse effect. Due to the high sail effect of the structure, it is recommended not to exceed a surface of 25 sqm of land per post.
