"V" system
The V system has been developed more recently in order to improve the issue concerning the discharging of the hailstones. It can be considered an evolution of the flat net system, since the main structure (posts, anchorages, cables and ropes) remains unchanged. In this structure, the net is held in tension by bungee ropes fixed on an internal renforcement of the net, forming the characteristic V shape in the center of the rows. The position of this additional reinforcement varies depending on the slope desired for the V, but is generally between 55 and 70 cm, paying attention in let available the height necessary for the passage of agricultural machines. Under the weight of the hail, the bungee that connects the two halves of the net stretches, increasing the overall slope of the net and allowing for a better discharge capacity. For lower maintenance costs, it is important that the bungees are protected by an external layer of polyethylene fibers with UV and Carbon black protection. The V system is used in all types of crops, generally with a distance between rows greater than 3.5 m and heights up to 5 m. Its construction is more expensive than flat structure systems due to the presence of bungee and because of the greater amount of hail net required. In addition, the operations of opening and closing the net require more time, entailing higher management costs.
