Rubber band structure
The bungee system structure is an alternative to the flat-net and “V” systems, particularly when the row width exceeds 4.5 meters or if the structure is high. In contrast to the V system, the bungee is fastened to the top wire of the adjacent row, instead of being connected to the additional reinforcement of the net. In case of strong hailstorms, accumulations of hail are formed due to the greater elongation of the elastic. However, the structure is very efficient as the elastic dampens the oscillatory effect of suspended masses exposed to wind. Bungee system is relatively easy to build, but it is slightly more expensive than the flat structure, due to the presence of bungee ropes and clips for fastening. It is often necessary to replace the elastic before during the lifespan of the hail net. For this reason, similarly to what was said for the V system, the use of bungees covered with UV-protected polyethylene filaments is recommended in order to extend the years of use. The bungee system can also be designed to over more rows with a single pitch, in case of orchards with a reduced row spacing, or in case of horticultural crops.
